The Livnot - Birthright Israel experience is planning for the summer of 2009 to be the biggest yet!
Known to most as
"Livnot U'Lehibanot" (to build and to be built) was started out of the home of Founder and Director Aharon Botzer and his wife, Miriam, in 1980 in the ancient city of Tzfat, Israel.
The name Livnot U'Lehibanot, which in Hebrew means To Build and To Be Built, refers to the physical contribution the participants make to the building of the Land of Israel, and to the knowledge and experiences gained during the program. Livnot is a work and study program designed for Jewish men and women between the ages of 21-30 with little or no Jewish background.
Backed by Taglit-Birthright Israel, Livnot is hoping to bring
500 young Jewish adults to Israel - for free! However Livnot does warn that this program is not for those who are "looking for a party atmosphere".
Taglit-Birthright Israel is a unique partnership between the people of Israel through their government, local Jewish communities (North American Jewish Federations through the United Jewish Communities, Keren Hayesod, and The Jewish Agency for Israel), and the Birthright Israel Foundation, generously supported by Jewish philanthropists such as Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson, Edgar M. Bronfman and more.
Registration for this summer experience begins Wednesday February 18. If you are a young Jewish adult who has not been to Israel - here is your chance!
